ABOUT ANTI-WRINKLE INJECTIONS

SAVE 10% OFF YOUR FIRST ANTI WRINKLE TREATMENT – valid for first-time cosmetic injectables clients only

Anti-wrinkle injections are a safe and effective, non- surgical way to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. The treatment works by temporarily immobilising the muscles used in different facial movements or expressions to prevent the skin from wrinkling. This softens the visible appearance of lines and wrinkles for a softer and more refreshed look.

Anti-wrinkle injections typically last 3 to 4 months. However, this varies between patients and the location of the injection. As the muscles slowly regain their function, your next treatment will be required to maintain your desired results.

The cost for Anti-wrinkle injections are dependent on the amount administered and can very according to gender, strength of muscle being treated, the degree of wrinkles and the effects of previous treatments. Our cosmetic injecting nurse will be able to advise you of the exact cost during your consultation, as each person’s requirements are different.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Anti-wrinkle injections are composed of a natural, purified protein. When injected into specific facial muscles, anti-wrinkle injections use a neuromodulator to relax the contraction of muscles, reducing dynamic lines to create a younger, softer, and natural-looking appearance. Anti-wrinkle injections have been used for many years to treat conditions such as cerebral palsy but now play a big role in the cosmetic industry.

Anti-wrinkle injections are most commonly used for treatment of frowns, forehead lines and crows feet around the eyes. They can also be used to create an eyebrow lift, to stop the mouth from pulling down, reduce gummy smiles (by lowering the upper lip) and to reduce neck bands.

Anti-wrinkle injections treat wrinkles caused by the contraction of facial muscles. They inhibit the transmission of neurotransmitter from the nerve to the muscle to stop the muscle from contracting and forming wrinkles. For example, they can be used to relax the muscles of the frown to prevent the appearance of a vertical frown line, or around the eyes to prevent the appearance of crows feet. It is important to note that anti-wrinkle injections do not immediately improve static lines (lines that are present at rest). These can be treated by adding volume with dermal fillers or through skin resurfacing. However, over a number of anti-wrinkle treatments, the skin that is normally creased has time to rest and recover and an improvement in static lines may gradually be seen. The fact that anti-wrinkle injections also stop the constant compression of skin, prevents the permanent ‘etching’ of wrinkles in the areas treated.

Treatments with anti-wrinkle injections involve having a number of small injections in the treated areas. The process usually takes only a couple of minutes to perform. The needles used are extremely fine and only a small volume is injected. The discomfort experienced is minimal and usually well-tolerated. The effects of anti-wrinkle injections are generally seen after one to two weeks. You will notice a gradual relaxation of the muscles treated which can start after 2-3 days but may take up to two weeks to be very noticeable.

The duration of effectiveness is dependent on the dose administered. It can last up to 4 months but often less after the first few sessions- around 3 months. Studies have shown that anti-wrinkle injections are more effective and last longer when given at regular intervals of 3-4 months due to progressive weakening of the muscles treated. If at any time, you decide to cease treatment, your muscles will return to normal. Wrinkling will gradually return to its previous state and does not become worse.

Normal activities may be resumed after treatment. However, you will be instructed not to exercise, lie down, or touch the treated areas for 4 hours. For the first 24hours we advise against strenuous physical activity. It’s important not to have a chemical peels or use any active ingredients, such as vitamin A on the treatment area for 24 hours following your anti-wrinkle injectables.

Probably not! A lot of patients opt to have their anti-wrinkle injections done in their lunch break as side effects are generally not present post treatment. Some patients may experience some slight spot bleeding but this stops after a minute or so. Our nurses will be able to apply camouflage make-up and no one will suspect a thing! Slight bruising may occur but can very easily be covered. It will be your little secret, however you may need to get used to people telling you how great you look!

Anti-wrinkle injections have been used for cosmetic purposes for two decades and for medical purposes for even longer without any reports of long-term side effects. In Australia, there are six registered indications for the use of anti-wrinkle injections: for children with cerebral palsy in particular body muscles to help reduce spasticity and allow normal movement, to reduce spasms of the eyelid, for treatment of cervical dystonia (neck muscle spasms), treatment of primary hyperhidrosis of the axillae (underarm sweating), cosmetic treatment of mobile muscles for wrinkles and for treatment of focal spasticity in adults.

Generally, there are few side effects to treatment and no downtime involved. Occasionally, a tiny bruise may appear over the treated area, this is more common around the eyes. This can be covered with make-up if required. There is often some transient redness and swelling of the treated area (similar to a mosquito bite) which usually lasts for less than one hour. Other possible adverse outcomes include asymmetrical results, failure to cause a significant change in the wrinkles (usually remedied with higher dosing), puffy eyes (for treatments around the eyes) and occasional unwanted weakness.

Risks and complications are significantly decreased when injections are administered by knowledgeable and experienced injectors like ours at Body Recon.

Most people find anti-wrinkle injectables very comfortable. We use very fine needles and the insertion is so shallow that most people will only feel the slightest sting.

You should look like a refreshed, wide eyed version of yourself. At Body Recon we favour a ‘less is more’ approach to our injecting, which should always be the case if administered correctly. You may need to get used to people telling you how great you look and asking what your secret is!

Anti-wrinkle injections have been utilised for many years now and this is the gold standard for treating active lines and wrinkles. By injecting small amounts into specific muscles, lines can be smoothed out, restoring a refreshed and less stressed expression to your face. The treatment works by temporarily immobilising the muscles used in different facial movements or expressions. Lines such as frown lines and crow’s feet are treated very effectively. The duration of anti-wrinkle injections varies for each individual but usually works after a few days and lasts for up to four months depending on the amount given.

Any surgical or invasive procedure carries risks. Before proceeding, you should seek a second opinion from an appropriately qualified health practitioner.
