ABOUT T3 SKIN TIGHTENING
At Body Recon we offer the newest form of non-surgical skin tightening using laser therapy. Generally this is done using two separate laser treatments in one – PIANO mode Nd:YAG 1064 nm laser and SMOOTH mode using non-ablative Er:YAG.
Our PIANO mode, has been shown to be an excellent wavelength to contract protein and initiate new protein formation, resulting in what is commonly referred to as “skin tightening”.
The aim with skin tightening laser remodelling is to heat the skin to stimulate more type 3 protein production. This procedure targets the protein in the dermis whilst preserving the epidermis and as a result there is no downtime associated with it. As dermal protein heals and remodels under an undamaged outer layer, the skin tightens and smoothes, thus improving its appearance.
Skin tightening treatments are designed to provide improvement in skin colour, tone, wrinkles and laxity, with minimal patient discomfort. Complications from this treatment are rare although it is normal to experience some erythema and swelling from a few hours post treatment. PIANO laser treatments are usually painless since the epidermis does not reach the high temperatures experienced with shorter pulses and the skin is not broken as it is with ablative treatments.
The SMOOTH mode is the second modality used. This uses the Er:YAG laser on a non-ablative setting, meaning that the outer layer of skin is vaporised creating a fresh canvas without any downtime or skin peeling. Fotona’s high-performance Er:YAG SMOOTH mode laser perfectly complements the Nd:YAG PIANO mode laser by targeting all the layers of skin and providing the ultimate non-surgical treatment for skin tightening.
For heavily sun-damaged, thickened or pigmented skin, fractionated laser can be used in conjunction with skin tightening to create a TwinLight laser treatment- designed for total skin rejuvenation as well as skin tightening. Skin tightening also works well in conjunction with anti-wrinkle injectables and for patients recovering from facial surgery.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
The number of treatment sessions required may vary from person to person and will depend on how lax the skin is. For a standard “neck lift” using laser skin tightening, we would normally recommend three treatments with 4 weeks between each and a follow-up treatment every quarter to maintain the results.
No, skin tightening using PIANO and SMOOTH mode does not result in any real downtime. With higher intensity treatments the skin may stay red with slight swelling for upto 24-48 hours afterwards but there is no flaking or shedding. This can be easily covered with mineral make-up.
Most areas of skin can be treated, most commonly and effectively the neck and face. We are also able to treat areas that may have increased laxity due to weight loss or childbirth, eg. arms, stomach or thighs. For larger areas with greater skin laxity, more treatments may be required.
It depends on the area. For facial and neck skin tightening we recommend topical medical homecare to ensure the best result possible from the laser treatment and to help prevent any complications. For body skin tightening, the skin is generally more resilient and topical homecare is not always required. One of our specialist clinicians will assess your skin prior to treatment and devise a plan when required.
This is a non-surgical option and is not going to give the same result as a facelift or abdominoplasty; whilst we are able to create a marked improvement in the tone of the skin, clients must remain realistic with the types of results that they are likely to achieve. At Body Recon we will always aim to give you an honest opinion on what treatment option is best for you. In cases where we feel that the laser alone will not be able to achieve the result that you are after then we will recommend that you make an appointment either with one of our cosmetic nurses to discuss possible injectable options or with our plastic surgeon, Dr Richard Rahdon, to discuss surgical options.
The laser works by heating and contracting tissue fibres and a smoothing and plumping of the skin will be noticed almost immediately. However, the protein remodelling process takes several months to complete and the result will continue to improve over this time. Protein fibres are strengthened for long-term tightening, rendering smoother, tighter skin. Skin tightening laser also works very well with anti-wrinkle injectables and dermal fillers.
The first step with skin tightening is for one of our clinicians to assess your skins suitability for the treatment. Not all skin conditions and skin types are suitable or there may be another treatment that is more suited to your concerns. All clients seeking skin tightening for the face will receive a Visia skin analysis; this records the results of your treatments and provides us with before and after photos. Visia is important because it will determine different skin conditions and allow us to assess all of the aspects that make up your skin- vascularity, elasticity, UV damage, depth of pigment, pores etc. This information allows us to correctly identify the best treatment plan for you and to provide you with information on any recommended services. We will also discuss in more detail what the treatment involves and establish goals of what you hope to achieve from any or all treatments.
Yes, the treatment is safe, effective and has no adverse effects. The treatment requires a thermal response in order to achieve protein stimulation and the skin colour will determine how intense the treatment can be. Fairer skin poses less risk for pigmentation concerns (hyper/hypopigmentation) and is therefore able to be treated at higher settings whereas darker skin requires lower settings.
Your technician will be able to advise you on a topical homecare regime. It is extremely important to care for your skin post treatment as it may be more sensitive initially after laser skin tightening. You will be provided with a post-care information sheet and it is important to follow these instructions to ensure that the skin is well cared for and protected at all times. General guidelines initially are to avoid any direct sun exposure, to apply only prescribed topical homecare, to avoid exercise for 24 hours and to ensure the skin remains clean and protected.
A standard neck and décolletage treatment is $450. Body skin tightening is determined by treatment area size. Often we will tailor a treatment package that may include pre and post care and multiple treatments and/or modalities for a heavily discounted rate. If a client is interested in having a treatment package drawn up then this is done at the same time as the Visia skin analysis.
Laser skin tightening is a great treatment for clients suffering from mild-moderate skin laxity who require a treatment with no downtime. It can be suitable for a range of skin types and conditions. For skin that is thickened or pigmented, a TwinLight laser with the incorporation of fractionated laser resurfacing may be a better option.
For patients with more severe sagging, a surgical option may be advisable.
