Unlike doctors (many of whom are not surgeons) who perform procedures in their “clinic” with no back-up, Dr Richard Rahdon and Dr Marion Chan perform breast surgery at the modern facilities at St John of God Hospital in Geelong, Epworth Hospital, Waurn Ponds, or at Barwon Health (Geelong Public Hospital). Thankfully things rarely go wrong, but if they did, it’s important to know that everything can be taken care of. Both our surgeons have a team of fully qualified, trusted anaesthetists to ensure your surgical experience is safe and comfortable.
The first step is an initial consultation with your surgeon. This is an opportunity to discuss your options with them and work out together what is best for you. It is also the opportunity to obtain more information about the procedure that you are interested in and how it will work for you. Your surgeon and team will explain every step of the surgery, the risks and potential complications and the desired outcome as well as any other questions you might have. Your consultation will involve some “before” and “after” photographs of previous surgeries to give you an idea of what to expect.
A comprehensive medical history and clinical photographs will be taken during your consultation. We would then organise a suitable date for your procedure at this stage. A second consultation can be arranged, if required, prior to surgery.
Body Recon has excellent operating facilities in our rooms, where our surgeons are able to perform a range of procedures inclusing carpal tunnel release to more complex surgery including cosmetic procedures such as Otoplasty (pinning back ears), eyelid surgery as well as fat grafting and chemical peels.
For more major surgeries, our surgeons operate at our award winning St John of God Day Surgery Centre and St John of God main theatres as well as Epworth Hospital Geelong and Barwon Health.
We regard this as a very important part of your care. You will be advised pre-operatively of any limitations to work or regular activities and how often you will need to be reviewed following surgery. Our surgeons need to ensure that you are recovering well and that you are happy with the results of your procedure. Patients will be supported 24/7 by an on-call Plastic Surgeon as well as a nursing contact for cosmetic patients.
Your doctor will see you on the day of your surgery, both before and after your procedure. Once you’re ready to leave hospital, you will be given all the information and medication you need to ensure you are relaxed, comfortable and confident. Depending on the surgery you will usually have a surgical review at one week, six weeks and three months after surgery, but rest assured you can have as many follow-up appointments as you need.
